I’m back after 8 weeks of maternity leave and picking up right where I left off…with the best events happening around Tulsa!

The Scarlet Letter is this Monday through Saturday at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center. This stripped-bare stage version of one of the best American novels ever written makes for a raw and exhilarating theatrical experience and tickets are just $15. Also at the Performing Arts Center this weekend don’t miss the All-State Honor Band, Chorus & Instrumental Concerts. Tickets for these shows are only $9.

Is John Cena a part of the WWE Smackdown gang? If so…you know you wanna go see him and all of your favorite Smackdown superstars (including Edge, Kane, Jack Swagger and The Divas) this Tuesday night at the BOK Center. Tickets are available for $15. Sounds exciting! Also at the BOK Center this weekend the Tulsa Oilers hockey team hosts Laredo and don’t miss the world-famous Harlem Globetrotters this Saturday night for $18.

As always, lots of concerts to look forward to this week at Cain’s Ballroom including Railroad Earth on Wednesday, Candy Coburn on Thursday, That 1 Guy & the Magic Pipe on Friday and Cody Canada & The Departed on Saturday night.

Things To Do This Week Around Tulsa

Oklahoma is known for a lot of things, but I think this crazy weather we’ve been having has to be at the top of that list! All this rain can sure put a damper on plans but don’t fret – here are some indoor (and a few outdoor) activities for you to add to your calendar this week:

Don’t miss Thrice this Friday night at Cain’s Ballroom for just $21.50 and check out the Flytrap Music Hall for great live music all week long. The R.K. Gun Show is at Expo Square’s Central park Hall this Friday through Saturday and don’t miss the Tulsa Flea Market at QuikTrip Center on Saturday.

Once again the Tulsa Performing Arts Center is hopping with events all week including Wide-Eyed Wonderland, Pure Country, Lyle Lovett and his Large Band and Irish Traditions. Go online to see ticket prices, times and more.

Other events you won’t want to miss include Oklahoma! at DiscoveryLand, Rhythm on the River, Summer Films on the Lawn, Crayons Improv Comedy and 2nd Saturday Free Family Day at the Philbrook Museum.

What’s on your calendar?

Well, this is the perfect chance for you and the kids to see these characters in person this week when Sesame Street Live comes to the BOK Center this Thursday through Sunday. This weekend in Oklahoma

Get ready folks there’s a ton of stuff to do this weekend in Oklahoma!

I’m slightly jealous of Tulsa and the fact that they have Cain’s Ballroom. It seems there’s always something going on it and this weekend is no exception. Ghostland Observatory plays on Friday night, Ian Moore on Saturday and several others throughout the weekend and early next week.

Here’s a FREE family-friendly event! Every second Saturday of the month is Free Family Day at Tulsa’s Philbrook Museum. Stop by anytime from 10:30 am – 4 pm to experiment with hands-on art projects, go on a scavenger hunt, take a tour of the museum and much more.

Also, make sure to cheer on the Tulsa Oilers this Friday and Saturday at the BOK Center and go see The Crucible this Friday through Sunday at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center.

Okay, for those of us living in the 4-0-5, there are a ton of things to do here as well:

These days it seems everyone is looking for a deal. If that includes you, make sure to check out the Buchanan Vintage Flea Market this Saturday and Sunday at the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds. This monthly market is one of the finest and most respected antique and collectible markets in the state and admission only $3 for both days.

Bricktown is always the place to be on the weekends. This Friday night red dirt music star Wade Bowen performs at the Wormy Dog Saloon and tickets are $12.

Families should make time to visit the Gaylord-Pickens Oklahoma Heritage Museum this Saturday, when the museum is offering free admission from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Museum uses high-tech, interactive exhibits to showcase the famous and not-so-famous Oklahomans who have impacted the state, country and world.

Other events to check out include Curious George at the Cox Convention Center, the Second Friday Circuit of Art in Norman, the American Indian Fest on Saturday and the Thunder versus the Clippers at Ford Center on Sunday night.

Enjoy your weekend!

Activities for this Week

As you know, the weather in Oklahoma can be very unpredictable.  So I’ve managed to compile a list of outdoor and indoor activities I recommend for this week.

-Lyric Theater presents “Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street“ starting this Thursday and running through November 1st. Tickets are only $40 to see this classic musical (and my favorite) thriller.

- The Civic Center Music Hall is the place to be to see “Dracula” just in time for Halloween. The show is this Saturday and Sunday at the Civic Center Music Hall and tickets start at only $15.

-Several concerts are making their way to Oklahoma this week, including Relient K at Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa on Tuesday and Rose State College in Oklahoma City on Wednesday, Third Day at the Coca-Cola Bricktown Events Center on Saturday, and the Stone Temple Pilots at Lucky Star Casino in Concho on Sunday. Tickets for all events are available online.

-The most loved and best known science fiction film-series of all time, Star Wars brings the thrilling music and spectacular costumes to Oklahoma this week. The show is at the BOK Center on Tuesday night and the Ford Center on Wednesday. Tickets start at $37 or $35 and are available online or at the venue box offices.

-What better way to get some Christmas shopping done than at An Affair of the Heart this weekend at the Oklahoma City Fairgrounds? The event is a three-day arts and craft show where you’re sure to find something for most everyone on your shopping list.

-This weekend is the 31st Annual Oktoberfest at Tulsa’s River West Festival Park. Enjoy delicious food and beverages, as well as carnival rides, live music, polka dancing and arts and crafts. The festival is open to the public and is fun for the entire family.

Things to Do in Oklahoma

Although the weather has been a bit dreary lately, there are a lot of events around the state this week that will cheer you right up!

-Go see Skillet along with special guests, Hawk Nelson and Decyfer Down, at SpiritBank Event Center in Tulsa on Thursday night. Tickets start at only $25.

-The most talked about concert in Oklahoma is this weekend!  That’s right, U2 and The Black Eyed Peas take the stage on Sunday at Memorial Stadium in Norman.
(Congrats to wimgo’s U2 ticket winners: Mike Weisbecker, Jenifer Cromling, and Larry Cornelius!)

-Theatre events include:
The ancient Greek masterpiece “Antigone” performs now through October 24 every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening.  Antigone is a powerful play written in 440 BC by Sophocles. The well-known tragedy focuses on several different themes including state control, natural law, civil disobedience, and citizenship, family, and the portrayal of the gods.  The show starts at 8 pm at City Arts Center Theater and tickets are only $15.

Check out “Fat Pig” at Ghostlight Theatre Club in the Paseo District this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  Tickets for this enlightening show are an affordable $15. This sharply drawn play not only critiques our slavish adherence to Hollywood ideals of beauty but boldly questions our own ability to change what we dislike about ourselves.

-Football.  As you probably know, this Saturday is the infamous Red River Shootout between the OU Sooners and Texas Longhorns in Dallas.  Also on Saturday, the OSU Cowboys host the Missouri Tigers at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater.

Visit wimgo for details on these events and many others throughout Oklahoma.

-Have fun!

Mmm Bop, baby

Two words helped to define my junior high experience:  Mmm bop.

Alright, define may be a stretch, but I clearly remember the glory days of Oklahoma’s own boy band, Hanson, and rushing out to purchase their first album “Middle of Nowhere”. “Mmm Bop” was the song of 7th grade.

Since then, the boys have all but fallen off the map… that is until now.  Hanson is now on tour and will make a stop at Tulsa’s Cain’s Ballroom on Wednesday night (9/30) with Hello Goodbye.

Tickets can be purchased online starting at $32.

Mmm Bop, baby.

The countdown has begun…

Things that make me uncontrollably happy… coffee, traveling, warm weather, and, I can’t lie, Sooner football. Yes, it’s true. I’m pretty much addicted and attend every game I can.  My family, friends and I tailgate for every home game and I just got tickets to the OU vs. BYU game at the new Dallas Cowboys stadium on September 5th.  Pretty darn excited.

Since that game is 30 days, 7 hours, and 16 minutes away (but who’s counting?), here are some things that would be super sweet to check out this weekend:

Hunky Australian Keith Urban and dynamic duo Sugarland will be in concert on Friday night at the BOK Center.  Go check him, err, them out for only $20.

If you’re a fan of Mel Brooks (and you really should be), you must go see his musical “The Producers” at the Civic Center Music Hall now through Saturday.  It’s just about as off the wall as Brooks and will have you holding your sides with laughter!

Here’s a FREE event just for you!  The Summer Twilight Concert Series continues this Sunday night at the Myriad Botanical Gardens and starts at 7 p.m.  Enjoy live music and the beautiful gardens with your friends and family.

Happy Thursday!

Summer > Winter

Summer in Oklahoma by Wimgo
It’s no secret that summer is my favorite season.  I love the feel of the warm (okay, let’s be honest, the hot) summer sun on my skin, going to the lake, and sno cones. I love the flowers, the festivals, the cool summer nights.

If you’re like me then you want to be out enjoying summer and all of the events Oklahoma has to offer.  Here are a few events I recommend this week:

The 14th Annual Bricktown Reggae Festival.  As the name suggests, the festival is in Bricktown so it’s close to lots of great restaurants and other Bricktown attractions.  Check it out and enjoy some live music!

Go see Aerosmith and ZZ Top at the BOK Center on Thursday night.  Tickets start at just $49.50; a small price to pay to see the best-selling American hard rock band of all time.

Also worth mentioning is the “25 Days: Photographs of Oklahoma” exhibit at the State Capitol North Gallery.  Here you’ll see some of Ken Crowder’s photos, which are a result from his commitment to take at least one artistic photograph every day for one year.

What are you doing this week?  Is there something that is a ‘must-see’?  Let me know – I just might have to check it out!

Have fun!
