Oktoberfest, Storytelling Festival in OKC
Now that Labor Day has come and gone, I guess summer is un-officially over. Don’t fret – still lots of great events to check out this week and weekend.
In the mood for food, beer and lederhosen? Then don’t miss Oktoberfest in Choctaw this Wednesday through Saturday! The annual event has traditional folk dancing and singing, authentic costumes and a variety of German food and beer. The event is great for families of all ages and tickets are just $3 for adults.
There’s live music all week long at the Wormy Dog Saloon with Ricky Stein, Still Breathing, Whiskey Meyers and others. Also, go see comedy’s lovable queen of mean, Lisa Lampanelli, at Firelake Grand Casino on Saturday night for just $24.
The Oklahoma Storytelling Festival is this Friday and Saturday at the SandRidge Energy Tower in downtown Oklahoma City. This event has two entertaining evening performances, a late-night session of ghost stories and professional workshops. There are also kid-friendly events and the Community Outreach Program which provides free performances to at-risk youth.
Also, be sure to attend Septemberfest at the Oklahoma History Center this Saturday with Governor Brad Henry and First Lady Kim Henry. This free festival is your opportunity to explore and experience attractions, activities, exhibits, and demonstrations and features crafts, music, storytelling, historical reenactments, face-painting, and more.
Check out “Oklahoma Red Dirt Wedding” at the Yellow Rose Theater in Moore. According to the description, “you’ll hoot, you’ll holler, your have the time of your life”. Seriously. Who wouldn’t want to attend?
The Norman Arts Council presents 2nd Friday Circuit of Art this Friday night. The event is free and open to the public and for just $2 you can ride the CART around town (it’s like a trolley) to all of the local art galleries. Also this Friday night is Live on the Plaza in Oklahoma City’s Plaza District.
Are you ready for some football?! Oklahoma State is home again this Saturday to host Troy and the OU Sooners have a tough battle against Florida State this Saturday in Norman. If you do get down to Norman, make sure to swing by Campus Corner and check the Oklahoma Lottery trailer for your chance to win $5,000!
Have fun!
