St. Patrick’s Day 2011 – OKC

Get ready! St. Patrick’s Day is only 10 short days away.

I’ve rounded up all of the St. Patrick’s Day events in the Oklahoma City area right here for you as well as some that are before and after the 17th. Know of something I’m missing? Let me know and I’ll get it added. Click on the title of each event for more information, ticket links and to ‘like’ and share it with your Facebook friends.

1. Sham-ROCK the Plaza!
Plaza District
Friday, March 11
Details: This FREE event is great for all ages! There’s lots of great live music planned and giveaways on Twitter (click here for details). Kids will love the “Pot of Gold” search and don’t miss all the wonderful shopping in the district, too!

2. 2011 Green Tie Gala
Skirvin Hotel
Saturday, March 12
6:30 – 9 p.m.

3. Irish Dancers
Bethany Library
Saturday, March 12
2 – 3 p.m.
Details: This annual event is an all ages show where you can see the Jean Hill Irish Dancers. I admit, the picture is a little scary but I bet the event is lots o’ fun!

4. WrestleMania
Oklahoma City Arena
Sunday, March 13
3 p.m.
Details: Okay, okay, this doesn’t really have anything to do with St. Patrick’s Day. But there is a wrestler named “Celtic Warrior” so I thought he should get some St. Patty’s Day love – even though Celtic and Irish aren’t really the same thing. Anyway, tickets are $15.

5. You Are So Lucky!
Capitol Hill Library
Wednesday, March 16
2 – 4 p.m.
Details: This is an event for the kids (ages 8-12. Anyone under 8 is welcome to attend with an adult). Celebrate the holiday with stories, crafts and snacks.

6. St. Patrick’s Day Cruise
Oklahoma River
Thursday, March 17
5:30 – 7 p.m.
Details: Enjoy a 90 minute theme cruise on the Oklahoma River complete with music, appetizers and beverages. All  cruises depart from Regatta park. Interested? Book now. Theme cruises allow a minimum of 12 people. Cost is $35/person.

7.  St. Patrick’s Day Block Party
Bricktown
Thursday, March 17
12 p.m. – 12 a.m.
Details:  This annual festival is held outdoors at the corner of Sheridan and Oklahoma Avenues in Bricktown. Live music, green beer, hats, t-shirts and FREE admission. The event will take place rain or shine.

8. St. Patty’s Day Mayhem at the Market
Farmers Public Market
Thursday, March 17
Details:  This is a boxing/MMA event. If you really want to go all out, VIP tables are available for $350 (beer and food included). Don’t want to shell out your Benjamins? Individual tickets are just $15 at the door.

Follow me on Twitter and you could win 2 tickets to this event!

9. Irish Pubs o’Plenty
Oklahoma City may be a hop, skip and 4357 miles from Dublin, but we have no shortage of pubs and other venues to celebrate the holiday.

Some pubs/restaurants you may want to check out:

Abner Ale House - Block party (11 a.m. – 2 a.m.)
Baker’s St.
Dan McGuinness (Moore)
Dan McGuinness (Edmond)
Dan O’Briens
– Bands include: Big Daddy, The Stars & Drive (doors at 10 a.m.)
McNellie’s
Block party (10 a.m. – 2 a.m.; Hosty Duo performance)
O’Connell’s (Campus Corner) – St. Patty’s Day Celebration (7 a.m. – 2 a.m.; green eggs & ham, live music)
Sean Cummings Irish Restaurant & Pub
TapWerks

10. Third Friday Celtic Night
Sonder Music Dance & Art (Norman)
Friday, March 18
6:30 p.m.
Details: This is a recurring event (the name kinda gave that one away) but sounds like a ton of fun! The evening begins with Irish Square Dance Lessons. At 7:30, enjoy traditional Celtic tunes and a potluck.

11. Oklahoma City’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade
Downtown OKC
Saturday, March 19
1 p.m.
Details: The parade begins at 5th and Broadway and runs south on E.K. Gaylord, turns east on Sheridan and continues through Bricktown. See the usual variety of proud car clubs, antique tall bicycles, Irish dancers, llamas (llamas?!), dogs, horses, floats, clowns and much more.

12. Casinos, Casinos, Casinos
Statewide
Details: Lots of St. Patrick’s Day events at Casinos around the state.

Notable promos include:

Kickapoo Casino – Lucky Leprechaun’s Pot of Gold
Lucky Star Casino – St. Patrick’s Day $10K
Remington Park – Horseshow Pitch for the Green!
Riverwind Casino – Easton Corbin (March 18) and $40,000 Lucky Fever (all month long)

And here’s some insightful St. Patrick’s Day trivia for ya:

St. Patrick’s Day is a religious holiday celebrated internationally on March 17. It is named after Saint Patrick (c. AD 387–461), the most commonly recognized of the patron saints of Ireland.

St. Patrick’s Day originated as a Catholic holiday and became an official feast day in the early 17th century and has gradually become more of a secular celebration of Ireland’s culture.

This information was taken straight from Wikipedia, so you know it’s gotta be factual.

Happy St. Patty’s Day, everyone!
