Events in OKC this Week – Sept. 27 – Oct. 3

Fall is officially here! I have to admit – I used to be a summer girl – but I’m very happy for the cooler weather these days. Hope you can enjoy the weather and some (or all) of these activities this week around OKC.

If you’re in the mood for some live music, check out the Diamond Ballroom. Concerts on the agenda this week include Flyleaf on Wednesday night, Thirty Seconds to Mars with Anberlin on Thursday and Bleeding Through on Friday. Additionally, don’t miss Left Foot Sally and Bleu Edmondson at the Wormy Dog Saloon, Don Williams at the Rose State Performing Arts Theater and the Back Woods Music Festival with Stoney Larue, Casey Donahew and No Justice at the Lazy J Arena (in Stillwater). In fact, I looked up ‘live music’ on wimgo and found 119 results for this week alone! Instead of listing them all – check out the entire list, here.

Oklahoma City had to suffer an entire season without hockey – and now, it’s back! That’s right, the Oklahoma City Barons season is almost ready to kick off, but before it does the team is giving fans the chance to see the team for the very first time. Don’t miss the Blue/White Intersquad Game held at the Cox Convention Center this Thursday night. The event is free and open to the public. Season ticket holders can pick up their tickets and select Barons merchandise will be available for purchase.

This may be a shocker to some of you, but I don’t really ‘get’ WWE. But I know a lot of people love it. If that’s you, don’t miss seeing your favorite SmackDown and Raw Superstars during the WWE World Tour SuperShow at the Ford Center this Friday night. Tickets are available online and start at just $24.

Head up to the original state capital for Guthrie Escape! this weekend. Come stroll among the artists, taste fine wines from featured wineries, listen to live music at the bandstand and dance in the streets at the Saturday night street dance. While you’re in Guthrie, another event to check out is the Oklahoma International Bluegrass Festival at Cottonwood Flats. This event features bands from all around the world, a children’s activity tent, instrument workshops and youth contests.

Check out the Canterbury Choral Society – Mendelssohn’s Elijah on Saturday at the Civic Center Music Hall. This fiery performance tells the story of the famous prophet in the Bible, Elijah. Through the style of an oratorio, the story is told through orchestra, chorus and soloists – all representing the characters in the drama. Tickets are available starting at $20.

The Manhattan Short Film Festival is all weekend long at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art.  Over 100,000 people in over 200 cities across six continents gather in cinemas, galleries, museums, and cafes for one purpose … to view and vote on the finalists’ films in the annual Manhattan Short Film Festival. Don’t miss it!

Another festival you might be interested in is the Oklahoma Czech Festival. This festival is one of Oklahoma’s largest ethnic festivals and features a carnival, parade, craft booths & boutiques, music, dancing, singing, games, royalty crowning, food, and much more. The parade begins along Route 66 at 10am, while the carnival starts on Friday evening at 5pm and again on Saturday.

Okay, technically this event isn’t in Oklahoma…but it’s one that most Oklahomans are aware of – it’s OU/Texas weekend! Who’s going to cheer on the Sooners and what do you think the final score will be?

Whatever you do – hope you have an awesome week!
