Oktoberfest, Storytelling Festival in OKC
Now that Labor Day has come and gone, I guess summer is un-officially over. Don’t fret – still lots of great events to check out this week and weekend.
In the mood for food, beer and lederhosen? Then don’t miss Oktoberfest in Choctaw this Wednesday through Saturday! The annual event has traditional folk dancing and singing, authentic costumes and a variety of German food and beer. The event is great for families of all ages and tickets are just $3 for adults.
There’s live music all week long at the Wormy Dog Saloon with Ricky Stein, Still Breathing, Whiskey Meyers and others. Also, go see comedy’s lovable queen of mean, Lisa Lampanelli, at Firelake Grand Casino on Saturday night for just $24.
The Oklahoma Storytelling Festival is this Friday and Saturday at the SandRidge Energy Tower in downtown Oklahoma City. This event has two entertaining evening performances, a late-night session of ghost stories and professional workshops. There are also kid-friendly events and the Community Outreach Program which provides free performances to at-risk youth.
Also, be sure to attend Septemberfest at the Oklahoma History Center this Saturday with Governor Brad Henry and First Lady Kim Henry. This free festival is your opportunity to explore and experience attractions, activities, exhibits, and demonstrations and features crafts, music, storytelling, historical reenactments, face-painting, and more.
Check out “Oklahoma Red Dirt Wedding” at the Yellow Rose Theater in Moore. According to the description, “you’ll hoot, you’ll holler, your have the time of your life”. Seriously. Who wouldn’t want to attend?
The Norman Arts Council presents 2nd Friday Circuit of Art this Friday night. The event is free and open to the public and for just $2 you can ride the CART around town (it’s like a trolley) to all of the local art galleries. Also this Friday night is Live on the Plaza in Oklahoma City’s Plaza District.
Are you ready for some football?! Oklahoma State is home again this Saturday to host Troy and the OU Sooners have a tough battle against Florida State this Saturday in Norman. If you do get down to Norman, make sure to swing by Campus Corner and check the Oklahoma Lottery trailer for your chance to win $5,000!
Have fun!

This was the most over-rated, expensive con going. 1 it costs 3.00 to get in and look at long lines, over priced merchandise and then there is nothing to do unless you want to dance on the mostly empty dance floor. Steins were 15.00 bucks, for some reason I guess they thought they were going to sell 100 and mostly 400 dollar nutcrackers. The t-shirts were amatuer at best. You had to buy your tickets in addition to 3 admission to eat, drink, buy anything inside. Their sign claimed 44 would feed family of four. The cokes and the beer alone to stand in line to get your food woul cost you 40.00 bucks. They were undestaffed in the kitchen was the excuse for the long lines. Two hours to stand in line to get something to eat. No napkins, the crowd used them to wipe the sweat off of their fack. It was so hot in the kitchen the staff was literally melted — constantly pushing their sweaty hair out of the way, no plastic gloves were worn as they manhandled buns, bread, etc. they put on your plate (after pushing their sweaty hair out of their face). 10 bucks for sausage dinner which included a hot dog or a german sausage the same size you would get at the grocery store; 1/4 cup of sauerkraught, or red cabbage, 1/3 cup of not so special potato salad and a piece of store bought rye bread. Streudal was prepaper plate saran wrapped and cold. There were 3 tents to sit down in, some blow up toys for the kids, a kids both to get face painted, root beer vendor, two kitchens (one was not even open on Sat.) a small walk up bar and two vendor tents, well one was a trailer and a t-shirt tent, THAT’S IT. NOTHING ELSE TO DO AT ALL. Shame on the Turek family for being money greedy and taking the festival away from the Choctaw merchants. Some say this festival is better away from the town…. whoa, I can’t imagine anything worse. ABSOUTELY DISORGANIZED. Oh whatever tickets you did not spend… no cashola back. For two of us it cost us 60 dollars. We didn’t even go home with a buzz or a full belly.
