Independence Day (and other) Activities Around OKC This Week

This is a great week! Independence Day is Sunday and that means there are a lot of related activities you won’t want to miss. But, don’t forget about other great events happening around the metro area, including…

The Kevin Durant Basketball Camp is this Wednesday through Friday at Heritage Hall. Sign your little baller up now! Also, don’t miss the Oklahoma City Summer Classic Dog Show this Thursday through Sunday at the Cox Convention Center. The 7th Annual show will bring in top dogs from all across the country to compete for Best in Show.

There’s a lot of great country music this week including fellow Oklahoman Blake Shelton at Firelake Grand Casino this Friday night, The Randy Rogers Band or Josh Gracin both at Riverwind Casino and the Charlie Daniels Band this Saturday at Frontier City.

The Greater Oklahoma Bluegrass Music Society Gospel Concert and Jam is this Saturday at the Oklahoma Country Western Museum Hall of Fame and go see Reefer Madness this Thursday through Saturday at the Carpenter Theater.

LibertyFest

Edmond, UCO Campus

This celebration has been named by CNN as one of the top 10 places to be in America on July 4th! LibertyFest has 11 events including: Car Show, KiteFest, Rodeo, Road Rally, A Taste of Edmond, Concert in the Park, Parade and much more. Finally, grab a blanket and head out to the UCO campus on Sunday for the spectacular fireworks display, which blasts off around 10 p.m.

The Bethany Centennial Freedom Festival

Bethany, SNU Campus

Event happening include: Freedom Run, Parade (10 a.m.), Classic Car Show, Musical Entertainment, Carnival Rides and Games and Fireworks that evening.

Red, White and Boom!

Bricktown

Events include: Free Patriotic Pops concert and fireworks on Saturday and RedHawks Baseball Saturday & Sunday  with Fireworks following.

Art in the Park: A Celebration of the Heartland

Moore

This two-day celebration features a variety of arts and crafts, entertainment, and food. The final day of the festival features additional activities and vendors, ending with spectacular fireworks.

Norman Day

Norman, Reaves Park

Visit the Traveling Vietnam Wall all week in Reaves Park. On Sunday, enjoy a variety of games and activities along with free watermelon, the Vietnam Veterans Recognition Ceremony and the Fireworks Spectacular.

Celebrate the 4th of July with a Free Concert and Fireworks

Riverwind Casino

Fourth of July festivities will kick off at 5 p.m., free Josh Gracin concert at 7:30 and a spectacular fireworks show at 9 p.m.

Live music begins at 8pm followed by our Fireworks Spectacular at 10pm.

Watch Oklahoma Children’s Theatre perform “Old MacDonald Had a Farm” at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. today at Bethany Library, 3510 N Mueller; 1 p.m. today at Ronald J. Norick Downtown Library 300 Park Ave.; and 3 p.m. today at Southern Oaks Library 6900 S Walker.

The theater troupe will perform through Friday at libraries throughout the metro area.

Sugar Free Allstars to launch Science Museum Oklahoma summer camps with Friday show

Summer is kicking off at Science Museum Oklahoma, and state kindie rockers Sugar Free All Stars are getting the museum’s summer camps off to a musical start.

The band, comprised of Chris “Boom!” Wiser, and Rob “Dr. Rock” Martin, will perform at 4 p.m. Friday at the museum, 2100 NE 52. The show is open to the public and will coincide with Science Museum Oklahoma’s “Did You Ever? Summer Camp,” where the first week is devoted to the science of sound.
