Celebrate the end of 2009 and start of 2010 at The Flaming Lips New Year’s Eve Freakout #3 at 8:30 tonight at the Cox Convention Center in downtown. The opening act will be another Oklahoma City psychedelic rock band, Stardeath and White Dwarfs.

After the confetti cannons have fired, thousands of balloons have dropped and the countdown to midnight has been completed, the Lips and Stardeath will again take the stage to perform…

Wednesday Video Spotlight: Holidays with The Flaming Lips

 

Oklahoma City music luminary Wayne Coyne recently visited the NewsOK studios to talk about The Flaming Lips New Year’s Eve Freakout #3. The show, featuring Stardeath and White Dwarfs, will ring in 2010 starting at 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Cox Convention Center.

The Lips frontman talked with Entertainment Editor Gene Triplett at length about the concert. Check out the NewsOK video posted above.

The event is sure to bring 2009 to a stunning close, with otherworldly music, confetti cannons and what Coyne believes will be the world’s largest balloon drop.

See the work of mixed-media artist E.K. Jeong, who uses a diverse assortment of art materials and techniques to create the works included in her exhibit “Esquisse,” at the state Captiol.

 The exhibit will be on display though Jan. 31 in the Governor’s Gallery, on the second floor of the state Capitol. The gallery is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. Admission is free and exhibits are curated by the Oklahoma Arts Council.

Rodin’s “The Kiss” is now on view at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art in Norman.

NORMAN –The Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art is offering a gift for art lovers during the holiday season: free admission for all visitors Saturday through Dec. 30.

“Our visitors are the museum’s greatest blessings,” said Ghislain d’Humières, museum director, in a news release. “We would like to thank our visitors for a wonderful year of activities and events at the museum. Free admission is a small way to show our great appreciation.”
