Activities for this Week

As you know, the weather in Oklahoma can be very unpredictable.  So I’ve managed to compile a list of outdoor and indoor activities I recommend for this week.

-Lyric Theater presents “Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street“ starting this Thursday and running through November 1st. Tickets are only $40 to see this classic musical (and my favorite) thriller.

- The Civic Center Music Hall is the place to be to see “Dracula” just in time for Halloween. The show is this Saturday and Sunday at the Civic Center Music Hall and tickets start at only $15.

-Several concerts are making their way to Oklahoma this week, including Relient K at Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa on Tuesday and Rose State College in Oklahoma City on Wednesday, Third Day at the Coca-Cola Bricktown Events Center on Saturday, and the Stone Temple Pilots at Lucky Star Casino in Concho on Sunday. Tickets for all events are available online.

-The most loved and best known science fiction film-series of all time, Star Wars brings the thrilling music and spectacular costumes to Oklahoma this week. The show is at the BOK Center on Tuesday night and the Ford Center on Wednesday. Tickets start at $37 or $35 and are available online or at the venue box offices.

-What better way to get some Christmas shopping done than at An Affair of the Heart this weekend at the Oklahoma City Fairgrounds? The event is a three-day arts and craft show where you’re sure to find something for most everyone on your shopping list.

-This weekend is the 31st Annual Oktoberfest at Tulsa’s River West Festival Park. Enjoy delicious food and beverages, as well as carnival rides, live music, polka dancing and arts and crafts. The festival is open to the public and is fun for the entire family.

What do you have planned for this week?

Iron Starr BBQ

Earlier this week I had the opportunity to try out the new Iron Starr BBQ in Norman. It was all kinds of fantastic.

The location is very quaint, tucked away in the heart of Campus Corner. The restaurant is sophisticated and classy, but still boasts a casual, comfortable air. I had the BBQ Club sandwich and Fancy Mac & Cheese. The entire experience was superb and Iron Starr BBQ receives my highest recommendation!

There are a lot of great places to eat on Campus Corner! Go to wimgo.com and review your favorite Campus Corner restaurants. You can see how I rated some of my favorites and a how others reviewed Campus Corner restaurants including Victoria’s Pasta Shop, La Luna, and more.

-Happy Dining!

Things to Do in Oklahoma

Although the weather has been a bit dreary lately, there are a lot of events around the state this week that will cheer you right up!

-Go see Skillet along with special guests, Hawk Nelson and Decyfer Down, at SpiritBank Event Center in Tulsa on Thursday night. Tickets start at only $25.

-The most talked about concert in Oklahoma is this weekend!  That’s right, U2 and The Black Eyed Peas take the stage on Sunday at Memorial Stadium in Norman.
(Congrats to wimgo’s U2 ticket winners: Mike Weisbecker, Jenifer Cromling, and Larry Cornelius!)

-Theatre events include:
The ancient Greek masterpiece “Antigone” performs now through October 24 every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening.  Antigone is a powerful play written in 440 BC by Sophocles. The well-known tragedy focuses on several different themes including state control, natural law, civil disobedience, and citizenship, family, and the portrayal of the gods.  The show starts at 8 pm at City Arts Center Theater and tickets are only $15.

Check out “Fat Pig” at Ghostlight Theatre Club in the Paseo District this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  Tickets for this enlightening show are an affordable $15. This sharply drawn play not only critiques our slavish adherence to Hollywood ideals of beauty but boldly questions our own ability to change what we dislike about ourselves.

-Football.  As you probably know, this Saturday is the infamous Red River Shootout between the OU Sooners and Texas Longhorns in Dallas.  Also on Saturday, the OSU Cowboys host the Missouri Tigers at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater.

Visit wimgo for details on these events and many others throughout Oklahoma.

-Have fun!

U2 in OK

I heard today that in preparation for Sunday’s U2 concert in Norman, the city has already begun re-routing traffic and clearing the streets to make way for the Irish band’s entourage and equipment. May sound extreme, but this is one of the largest acts to hit Oklahoma in quite a while and “The Claw”, U2′s stage, takes nearly a week to assemble. Obviously, this is a one-of-a-kind show and you won’t want to miss it!

Perhaps you didn’t purchase tickets and are kicking yourself for that very reason. Well, no worries! Wimgo is giving away 2 VIP tickets and 4 general admission tickets for the show. Just visit wimgo.com/U2  for details and to enter to win.

The winners will be chosen and contacted on Wednesday, October 14th.

Good luck!

This Week’s Activities

This week is full of events throughout the state.  Here are a few of my recommendations but there are plenty of other things to check out.  Be sure to visit wimgo to find exactly what you’re looking for!

-I’ve seen Matchbox Twenty in concert so I can vouch for the lead singer, Rob Thomas, and his ability to entertain the crowd.  He’s back on tour with special guests OneRepublic and Carolina Liar and will make a stop at the Ford Center this Wednesday night.

-Once upon a time, if you googled ‘worst band in the world’, Creed would be the first result to appear.  If you don’t exactly know how you feel about the band, now is your time to decide!  Get tickets for their concert this Friday at the BOK Center and finally make up your mind.  They’ll be with special guest Staind and tickets are only $27.

-More than likely someone you know has been affected by breast cancer.  In fact, one in every eight women will be diagnosed with the disease.  October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and there is a lot you can do to help, including participating in The Race for the Cure this Saturday at the Bricktown Ballpark.  Also, stop by any Panera Bread this month and purchase a pink ribbon bagel.  Proceeds help to fund breast cancer research and support.

-Go see the Pollard Theatre’s production of the rock musical RENT this month in Guthrie.  You might, however, want to leave the kids at home – the show is more suitable for adults.  Tickets start at only $25.

What are you doing this week?
