The next release of wimgo.com is imminent, let’s call it 4.0.
We’ve been hard at work on some exciting changes to the site. Over all, there are some great improvements to our navigation and search making the site much easier to use.
Wimgo is still the best local source for business information; community, entertainment and sporting events as well as movie times and actor and movie information. But now it’s even more. Wimgo is a social search engine that connects people to their community (places to go, things to do and businesses to do business with).
Here are some of the major changes you can expect on the site:
- Redesigned home page;
- New navigation and categories;
- Improved search performance on the site;
- Deeper integration with Facebook;
- Great new recommendations
THE NEWLY REMODELED HOME PAGE
The new wimgo home page might take you by surprise. Wimgo began as a comprehensive database of local events, the home page primarily featured events. While events are still an important focus for wimgo, we have now prominently integrated local businesses, restaurants and places, making it more convenient for you to discover all of the best spots to visit, dine, shop and do business.
One change that you’ll notice immediately is our new, interactive map showing what’s around you. Local events, movies, restaurants and businesses have been spotlighted to help you discover the best things to do and see in your community, but you can also move through the map to see other places and happenings all around your area. Play around and see what you find.
You’ll also notice that we’ve included local blogs and twitter feeds to keep you up to speed on the latest trends in your area, and we’ve added recommendations for things you might like to try. Once you’ve logged in with your Facebook ID, you’ll see recommendations based upon the restaurants, businesses and events your Facebook friends have liked.
A MORE INTUITIVE SITE NAVIGATION
Our navigation menus have changed throughout the site. We’ve worked to create navigation categories that make sense for the way most people seem to want to use the site. Businesses have been grouped into popular types: Attractions, Community, Health & Beauty, Restaurants & Bars, Services, Shopping. Events and Movies also have top billing in the navigation. Coupons and Blogs will now be featured on the individual landing pages and the business detail pages.
A BETTER SEARCH EXPERIENCE
We dove deep to finely categorize each business in our database. As a result, we nearly doubled the number of business categories for you to explore. Now, not only will your navigation-aided searches become easier, your overall search experience will be more accurate and relevant than ever. Simply put, you’ll find what you want faster. Try it for yourself and let us know what you think.
LOGIN WITH FACEBOOK
To help provide a more positive personal experience, wimgo is shifting to a Facebook-only log in system. That means to get the most out of wimgo, you’ll need to log in using your Facebook email and password.
Once you’ve logged in, wimgo will show you local recommendations from your Facebook friends. Since these recommendations come from people you know and trust, you can quickly make decisions about how or where to best spend your time and money. The move also allows for more credible reviews on the site since any reviewer of a business must be willing to attach a personal id to his or her comments. This encourages honest reviews, giving you and the business owner greater peace of mind.
You can still use wimgo to find great stuff in your community without connecting via Facebook. However, if you are not logged in, you will not be able to leave reviews and ratings, see recommendations from your friends or upload content to the site.
YOUR FEEDBACK IS CRITICAL
We’ve built wimgo for you. We want to provide a site with real utility for your everyday life, and we want to make each visit to our site the best possible experience for you. The changes we’re making are significant. If you come across anything that is not working, please take the time to leave a comment letting us know how we can improve. Every user is important to us. Also, be sure to tell us what you like about the recent changes and suggest future changes that would make your experience better.
Please feel free to contact me if you have questions, comments or suggestions. You can email me directly at email@example.com – have a blessed day.
